Police dog not deterred by attacks
A 25cm-deep stab wound that he suffered behind the shoulder in January has not deterred the police dog, Wolf, from his tracking duties. After a month off, to recover from surgery, the German shepherd, aged five, has this year successfully tracked 115 offenders in his 45 call-outs.
In less than 24 hours last week Wolf lived up to the “excellent” grading given to him by his handler, Constable Paul Henderson. Wolf found a masked robber who had bashed a woman, caught a youth who had escaped from the Henderson police station, found the robbery victim’s missing money, and tracked another youth through heavy bush for 6km.
