New code on ‘risky’ goods
PA Wellington A new draft code of prac-1 tice for the transport of" dangerous goods on land has ' been released for comment ■ by the Standards Association, The code provides the": manufacturing and transport iindustry with references and advice to achieve safe trans- 1 • port of hazardous substances. : ‘ It covers the classification ■ of hazardous substances; ' labelling and marking re-• quirements of packages, con- - tainers and vehicles; packaging of hazardous substances; > carriage of bulk liquids and ‘ liquefied gases; stowage and compatibilities; documentation; and transport procedures.
The code has been prepared as a result of the recommendation of the Commission of Inquiry into the’ 1973 Parnell civil defence ■ emergency. Comments on the code of practice must be received by September 6. ! "■
