Store sheep Although the store sheep market was followed by a large crowd, values did not improve much and nearly every, sheep sold looked good buying. Quality was very mixed. A lot of sheep showed signs of a very hard winter and these, probably because of present feed shortages, were hard selling. any sheep showing some condition was easier to quit. Ewes and lambs still look good buying. Some were as cheap as $B, all counted. Most breeding ewes were in the $l6 to $13.20 range, although some better quality sheep, both fine and strong woolled. sold over $3O. Lambs had an indifferent sale. Some interest was shown in well grown lambs but lighter sorts were very hard selling. The yardings were 1418 lambs (966 last week) • and 5593 ewes (2715). Sales of store sheep included:—J. M. Store cattle Most of the 563 store cattle offered (187 last week) showed signs of a difficult winter. However, some well grown two-year steers lent an air of quality to the market and these sold at $lO above late rates. Buying interest ( was widespread. Cattle went to South Canterbury, the West Coast and local fatteners. Yearling cattle, especially heifers, were harder selling. Sales of store cattle included:—l. C. McMillan (Waipara). 37 two-year AngusSimmental cross steers at $291 to $326; J. A. Allen (Waikari). 7 twoyear Hereford Shbrthorn cross steers at $338; A. and R. Values were: — Light pork: $BO to $9O. Medium and heavy pork: $95 to $lO5. Light and medium bacon: $llO to $l2O. Heavy bacon: To $135. Light choppers: $BO to $95. Heavy choppers: $l2O to $l4O. Store pigs .The store pig yarding was smaller than last week and outside buyers did not compete. This meant values eased slightly. Values were:— Small weaners; $3O, to $4O. Good weaners: $4O to $47.
