Medals to N.Z. wines

PA Wellington Wines from the New Zealand vintner, Corbans, have won high awards at an international wine fair in Brussels. From four wines submitted. Corbans received two gold and two silver awards. Judges at the fair, the “19th World Selection of Wines. Liqueurs, and Spirits Competition,” awarded golds to Gorban’s 1980 Muller Thurgau and 1980 Gewurtztraminer, and silvers to the 1980 Merlot and 1980 Cabernet Rose.

Corban’s general manager, Mr Kevin Peterson, said his company was particularly pleased with the silver medal awarded to the Merlot.

“Corbans is the only winemaker in New Zealand making a Merlot wine and we know it will find wide acceptance with the consumer as a light-bodied, fullflavoured wine," he said. "This is the first year we have produced the Merlot and already it is an international award winner."
