Thieves take extinguishers
Three fire extinguishers, valued at $lOlO. were stolen from the offices of NewZealand Safety, Ltd. in Moorhouse Avenue, early yesterday morning. The police are investigating this and several other recent burglaries in Christchurch. Several have occurred in Papanui. including the theft of a video-cassette recorder, valued at $2OOO. from Group Rentals, in the Papanui Shopping Centre, Audio and visual equipment valued at $1570 ’ was taken from the nearby Papanui Lighting and Radio Centre.
A clothing shop, a bowling club, and a kindergarten have also been entered within the last few davs.
In the inner city. $4O cash and $7OO worth of cutlery and hardware were stolen from Bezett Wholesalers, 216 Madras Street,, and tools and a set of golf clubs, together valued at $6OO, were taken from the Gainsborough Motel, in Bealey Avenue.
Groceries valued at more than $2OO were stolen from an external freezer at the New World Supermarket. 117 Tuam Street.
