Government spending
Sir,—l have heard it stated that .several of the National Party M.P.s have joined Mr Quigley in espousing the finer points of capitalism as opposed to the inferior performance of State capitalism or. more correctly’. "socialism." As they agree, most government departments are mismanaged and. as a result, run at a loss which the taxpayer has to pay for in the form of higher taxes. Even when the Government sets itself up in a monopoly situation they still cannot make a profit or break even. I think it is time that we New Zealanders got behind these free enterprise upholders, gave
them our support, and let them know that we are totally for a reduction in the size of government, a reduction in government spending and an increase, of private enterprise into our economy. — Yours, etc., (Miss) T. BALLANTYNE. July 31, 1981.
