Young Nationals elect chairman
Mr P. T. Kiely of Auckland. has been elected chairman of the Young Nationals, at the party’s .conference in Wellington
Mr Kiely said the youth vote would decide this year’s General Election. Single issues, such as the Springbok tour, should not distract voters.
"Young people must decide the economic base upon which New Zealand is to develop for the next twenty vears," he said.
He agreea mat socreo could gain the votes of dissatisfied Labour or National supporters, but he added that such a protest vote would not be in New Zealand’s longterm interests, dismissing the league as “hocus pocus.”
Nir Kiely is a law graduate and formerly deputy chairman of the Young Nationals.
He replaces Mr S. D. Upton, who has become National’s candidate for the Waikato electorate.
