Three vie for Socred post
PA Auckland Three men have indicated their intention to contest the Deputy Leadership of the Social Credit Political League. They are the member of Parliament for East Coast Bays. Mr G. T. Knapp. Mr Ne’vern * McConachy, of Kaipara. and the league’s Papatoetoe candidate. Mr Alan Shaw. Mr Knapp, who won East Coast Bays for Social Credit in a by-election last September, has confirmed that he was a definite contender for the deputy leader post. Mr McConachy, the
league’s campaign committee convenor, said that he was considering putting his name forward for the position. made vacant .by Mr Jeremy Dwyer who resigned on Friday as Deputy Leader and candidate for Hastings. He would prefer to get clearance from Kaipara branch members before he . made a decision. Mr Shaw, who is chairman of the league’s campaign fund finance committee, ye- . sterday said that Social Credit - political leadership must be spread as widely as possible until it had more members in Parliament.
