Insurer pays out for twins
N'ZPA Atlanta A couple who “for a joke" took out an insurance policy late last year against the possibility of twin birth expect to collect SNZ242O this week, a month after their twins were born. It will be the first time anyone has collected in the 21 years that the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company has offered the policy, according to a company statement. "My wife was very, very large early on in her pregnancy," said Mr Butch Medwed. “Friends of ours kept teasing us how we were going to have twins, how we were going to have triplets, and told us we should take out insurance." Mr Medwed said that “for a joke” he called his insurance agent, who had never heard of twins insurance, but agreed to call several com-
panies in search of such a policy. The agent found the policy — a SNZISI premium for SNZ242O cover — and Mr Medwed bought it. “I said to myself it was worth the premium not to have twins, and if fate would have it that we should have twins, the payout would have been worth the cost,” he said. After Gail Medwed gave birth to Robert and Michael on July 8, they gave the birth certificates to the insurance agent. The Medweds, who also ,have sons aged 11 and eight, will use the money to pay whatever medical costs their regular insurance does not cover and to hire a nurse to help with the babies. “They are a lot of trouble,” Mr Medwed said. “They are cute when they are good, but when they both get up in the middle of the night, they are a lot of trouble, not to mention expensive."
