Protest protest
PA ■ Dunedin A Dunedin journalist, Shane David Wilson, aged 19. threw three eggs at a group of anti-tour protesters on Saturday because he thought that something had to be done, the District Court at Dunedin was told yesterday. Wilson, who was not represented, pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly behaviour and was fined $5O.
Sergeant A. N. Bremner said that Wilson was seen to throw the eggs at a group of
protesters in Dunedin
Wilson told the court that he realised that it was a silly thing to do, but he was angry about what, had happened at Hamilton and that protesters seemed to get away with everything. Judge Ross told Wilson that he had no right to take the law into his own hands.
The police had to make their own decisions about how- to handle things. The defendant’s behaviour might have incited more disorder.
