Smith carried off
Early fears that the Canterbury and Belfast first five-eighths. Wayne Smith, may have fractured his jaw bone in a senior rugby match against Christchurch on Saturday have proved unfounded. Smith was involved in a collision with a Christchurch forward and carried from the field unconscious on a stretcher. The former All Black was
admitted to hospital where he spent the evening, but he had recovered yesterday from his concussion and. although sore around the jaw, had no broken bones. Smith will miss the Canterbury match against South Canterbury in Timaru on Wednesday, but should be cleared to play for his province in its second national championship match against Southland on August 18.
