Guerrilla chief shot dead
NZPA-Reuter Salisbury A prominent South African nationalist guerrilla leader was shot dead outside his home in a Salisbury suburb at the week-end.
The police said Joe Gqabi, representative in Zimbabwe of the African Nationalist Congress, was shot as he evidently was reversing his car out of the gates of his home in the Salisbury suburb of Ashdowne Park. Bullets smashed into his head and chest, and 18 9mm cartridges were found amid shattered glass fragments. A spokesman said he could not confirm reports that. an Israeli-made Uzi sub-machine-gun had been found at the scene, but said a Uzi used 9mm ammunition.
