Propane blast rocks town

NZPA-Reuter Moab An explosion at a propane storage plant sent a ball of fire roaring into an adjacent camping ground, injuring 10 people, one of them fatally, and forcing the evacuation of some 3000 residents of Moab at the week-end.

A boy, aged 8, died after being burned in the blast, which a police captain, Daniel Ison, said apparently was touched off by lightning. Nine other people were injured, eight of them critically, in the explosion at the Doxol storage plant north of Moab, south-eastern Utah. Two of those injured were employees of the bulk propane plant, Captain Ison said, while the rest were staying at a camping ground. The explosion knocked out power to about 7000 households in the area for most of the night, forcing delays in airport flights and hampering communications. Power was restored later.
