New owners of O’Farrell property
The 280 ha Governor’s Bay property of Mr G. P. O’Farrell, who once had a big development plan for the land, has been sold to Mr D. C. Carter, a son of Mr M. R. Carter, a Christchurch contractor. It is believed that Mr O’Farrell and his family • have moved to Sydney. Mr Carter now farms a West Melton property, and plans to take possession of the Governor’s Bay land this week. He and his wife plan to farm sheep and cattle. Mr O'Farrell, who was described as a millionaire land developer when he ar-
rived from El Salvador 14 years ago, had plans for big development schemes on Banks Peninsula. Residents opposed the development and the Mount I Herbert County Council blocked development of O’Farrell properties with a reviewed district planning scheme. Mr O’Farrell, aged 54, was adjudged bankrupt in 1975 on evidence that .he failed to pay $105,000 owing for the purchase of a jade company. An attempt to have the court decision annulled was delayed and later dropped. Mr Carter bought the land from the Official Assignee for “several hundred thousand dollars."
