Walker angered
NZPA Correspondent London The former Olympic champion, John Walker, is angry with Steve Ovett for missing the 1500 metres world record at Budapest last week, British newspapers have reported. Walker, who was in London to run in the Talbot Games at Crystal Palace, was quoted as saying: “He should have done it. If Sebastian Coe was running, I’m
certain he would have set a record.” The New Zealander was quoted as saying it was the first time he had helped to make the pace for Ovett and it would be the last. “I set a fast pace over the third lap and he had all the assistance he needed,” the “Daily Mirror” quoted Walker as saying. “I told him that he must go at the bell, but he waited until 800 metres from home and that was too late.”
