Waimairi rubbish collection

Sir,—l find it unbelievable that anyone in this country is allowed to place a black ban on anyone. It should be called by its proper name “blackmail.” This is yet another action on the part of the unions which displays their gross irresponsibility and disregard for the well-being of anyone other than their members. The ratepayers of Waimairi must be horrified that a dozen men are trying to force them to pay them a rate of pay for work that can be provided cheaper and more efficiently by private contractors. To bring an entire company to a standstill by intimidatory tactics such as a black' ban, is wrong, should be illegal, and is yet another reason for voluntary unionism. — Yours, etc., J. BUCHANAN. July 23, 1981.
