Queensland wins well
NZPA- Brisbane A controversial penalty by the five-eighths, Paul McLean, opened the way for a convincing Queensland win over North Auckland in the rugby match at Ballymore yesterday. The Maroons finished strongly to win by 26 points to 9 but had been held to an 11-9 lead ten minutes into the second half when the penalty was given by the Brisbane referee. Kerry Fitzgerald. He ruled that the North Auckland centre. Mike Gunson, had passed the ball after being effectively tackled in
centrefield and when the visitors disputed his ruling Mr Fitzgerald brought the penalty 10m further downfield and well within McLean's range. The three pointer widened the gap and North Auckland’s game fell apart to let Queensland in for two more tries and a comfortable victory. Scorers.— Queensland 26 (Peter Grigg, Brendan Moon, Mark Loane. Michael O'Connor tries; Paul McLean penaltv, 2 goals, Michael O'Connor' a dropped goal; North Auckland 9 (Colin Phillips try, David Haynes penalty, goal.
