Poetry competition
About 1000 entries were received in the “Pen A Poem” competition run by “Fact” magazine, A number of poets in “The Press” area were successful in the competition. Some of these poems are 'printed here. The results were:— Under 11 years: Danielle Carter (New Plymouth) 1, Barry Kirkland (Dunedin) 2; Paul Jackson (Auckland) 3. 11 to 14 years: Lisa Fishlock (Auckland) 1; Catherine
Anderson (Outram) and Simon Brown (Lower Hutt) 2; Johnathon Tyler (Christchurch) and Andrew Neame (Tauranga) 3; Rebecca Ingerson (Wellington) and Mark Porter (Christchurch) highly commended. 15 to 19 years: F. Meikle, 1; Priscilla Mary McAllum (Nelson) 2; Chad Taylor (Auckland) 3; Sara Knox (Christchurch), Melanie Grant (Auckland), Melinda Levesque (Nelson), Tracy Collyer (Christchurch), highly commended.
