Margaret Trudeau’s new friend
NZPA-Reuter Ottawa Margaret Trudeau, the estranged wife of Canada’s Prime Minister, has a new man in her life — a lawyerbusinessman, James Johnson, who she says has been living with her at her Ottawa home. Mrs Trudeau, aged 32, and Mr Johnson, in his late 30s, made. their most public appearance on Saturday night at a party after the final performance of a Canadian dance spectacular at the National Arts. Centre.. The relationship has been an open secret among their close friends for months. Asked at the National Arts
Centre whether it would trouble them if it were reported that they were living together, Mrs Trudeau hesitated, looked at Mr Johnson and replied: “Well, it’s true. We’ve been together for some time.” When asked if they hoped to marry, she replied, “We’re both still married, each of us with children we’re helping to bring up.” “We haven’t reached that stage,” said Mr Johnson. The former Margaret Sinclair and Mr Pierre Trudeau, aged,6l, have been separated since May, 1977, and care for their children — Justin, aged 9, Sacha, aged 7, and Michel, aged 5 — on alternate weeks.
