Walk title to Raynor

PA Hamilton Cold conditions took their toll on the field as Otago’s John Raynor won the New Zealand 50km road walk title at Cambridge on Sunday. Raynor, who won the championship in a time of 4hrs 45min Is, was one of only three finishers in a field of nine. One of the most creditable performances was that of the Taranaki walker Norman Read, aged. 49, who showed he has not lost the touch or the fitness that gained him the gold medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
