Religious material
Sir,—Cr C. E. Manning, supported by Cr H. A. Clark, at a meeting of the Christchurch City Council’s health and general committee says: “I would like to see if we could stop door-to-door peddling of religious material” and “the public is fed up with being pestered by these people.” If we are to cut out or severely restrict this source of Christian teaching, the country would soon suffer a further influx of crime and immorality unprecedented in previous years. Christianity is a . wonderful staying power for good always opposed to evil, and who can deny it? It is a credit to the community and an affront to Godless communism. I was 26 years old before someone “peddled” the Gospel to me.— Yours, etc., A. DELHANTY. May 31, 1981.
