Canterbury team
In spite of its loss yesterday to Country, the nucleus of the Canterbury rugby team to play Scotland at Lancaster Park on June 6 consists of Town players. The Canterbury selectors ’’ (Messrs Gerald Wilson and Neil Cornelius) have placed faith in the Town back-line, which has been retained in whole, and the Canterbury pack includes three players who made a marked impact on yesterday’s game, Don
Hayes, Graeme Higginson and John Ashworth. Three of the Canterbury team suffered injuries in the annual Town v. Country fixture. Murray Davie and Don ‘ Hayes both had stitches to head wounds and Dave White, who went off soon after half-time, had worries with stomach muscles. Although not officially named in the reserves, the big Lincoln College lock, Albert Anderson, will take part
in Canterbury’s training this week. The team is: Robbie Deans, Randal Scott, Vic Simpson, Brett Oetgen, Keiran Keane, Wayne Smith, Steve Scott, Peter McLaren, Don Hayes, Graeme Higginson, Dave White, Jock Hobbs, John Ashworth, Mick Powley, Murray Davie. Reserves.—Backs: Gary Barkle, Rod Latham, Steve Hansen. Forwards: Gwynn Williams, John Masefield, Pat O’Byrne.
