N.Z. now popular location for film makers

PA Wellington New Zealand has become a popular location for overseas film makers, according to the National-Film Unit's manager, Mr Douglas Eckhoff.

Mr Eckhoff has spent the last five weeks overseas on a Film Unit marketing and publicity trip, which included a visit to Cannes for the film festival. “New’ Zealand has developed a very good reputation overseas,” he said.

“International crews who have filmed in our country before have returned with very favourable comments and as a result there is an increasing interest in producing films in New Zealand.”

Among projects planned by overseas producers to be made in New Zealand are a television series on the last voyage of Captain Cook, a film on Africa, and a film on Scotland. “The bulk of finance for these films will come from overseas and so any crew that comes to New Zealand will spend a lot of money here,” Mr Eckhoff said. "These films are all multimillion dollar_ projects.”
