Wairarapa beats Bay
PA Masterton Wairarapa Bush scored a narrow 10-6 win over Hawkes Bay in a scrappy rugby match at Masterton on Saturday.
Both teams had difficulty winning clean possession from the line-outs and mauls, which produced only a minimum of attacking backplay.
Hawkes Bay, a national first division side, would have been disappionted with its performance against Wairarapa Bush, a second division team. It held a territorial advantage through most of the match but never really looked like scoring any tries."
Mike Cornford scored a try for Wairarapa Bush and Doug Bracewell kicked two penalty goals. Hawkes Bay's points came from two penalties by its fullback, Kevin White.
