Resounding tour win for Richard Bruce

Richard Bruce, one of the youngest in the A grade field, was a resounding and deserving victor in the Ray Knight Cycles open novice cycling tour, held by the Hornby Club at Prcbblcton yesterday. Bruce’ won the tour in the grand manner. Only in third place before the final stage, giving away 12s to George McAloon and four to Dean Lovett. Bruce turned in a spirited final stage in heavy rain, slipping the field in the late stages, and holding on to his break.

He crossed the line a mere 3s clear of Lovett, with McAloon and Craig Fenton another couple of seconds in arrears but that, and the time bonuses, were enough for over-all victory. Bruce certainly did enough during the race to win He won the time trial by 3s as well, and was always handy in the sprints. Jon Andrews won the B grade very easily.
