Parking in Square

Sir,—Your correspondent, Frank Freeman (May 27) should not allow his obvious dislike of Labour to become an obsession. He should have more

sense. The condition of the pedestrian area of Cathedral Square as he describes it as being on May 22 is not new. Presumably there was a special reason for that condition on that date but similar conditions have obtained when the City Council was dominated by the Citizens’ Association. On those occasions, I suppose, it was allowable. For Mr Freeman’s information some of the stallholders who use the Square have permits of long standing issued by the ( previous council. Incidentally, I am open to correction on this point, but is not the issuance of parking tickets the duty of officers of the Ministry of Transport and not of City Council officers? — Yours, etc.. EDWARD DAY. May 27, 1981.
