A meeting of the county council decided last evening to make a contribution this year of 20c a head of population. or about $1768. Cr J. Richardson said that the -"year was half over before the Promotion Council got any money.” He felt that the County Council should decide on a grant which the Promotion Council would get for two years. Cr M. -J. Taylor supported Cr Richardson but was doubtful about setting an amount for two years at last evening’s meeting. It was decided to discuss Cr Richardson’s suggestion

at a meeting of the finance committee.

Ice hockey An exhibition ice hockey match between a New Zealand side and an international team at the Centaurus Ice Rink on Sunday, June 7, can go ahead, the council decided.

But cheering will have to be kept down. One of the conditions is that the Canterbury Ice Hockey Association take precautions to keep noise to a minimum.

An earlier application for the Sunday match had been declined. The council had received a letter from a Centaurus Road resident who had complained about noise from the rink on Sundays. Proceeds from the match will be given to Telethon.
