Nude scenes
Sir,—lt is reported that the “Bible Lady” of Christchurch has written to the Prime Minister asking that the show "0 Calcutta” be banned from New Zealand because of the nude scenes in it. She has also objected to the recent television documentary about breast cancer. Most people today can see nothing objectionable in the naked bodies of human beings. Nor can God; He made us. Nude scenes do not stimulate feelings of lasciviousness in all of us. The Victorian prudery of the Bible Lady is more objectionable to me than naked bodies.. Doctors and nurses are constantly dealing with naked bodies. I shall not be seeing “O Calcutta” as it does not interest me, and I suggest that those who find nakedness objectionable should also stay away. But those who want to see the programme have a right to go.—Yours, etc.,
R. J. BURNS. May 26, 1981.
