Submissions deadline

The deadline for submissions to the Penal Policy Review Committee is the end of the week. The committee, under the chairmanship of Mr Justice Casey, was established by the Government to carry out a review of penal policy. . In February this year submissions were invited, from community and professional groups and individuals.'. .
A representative of the
Justice Department said yesterday that about 50 submissions had been received, expressing many shades and strengths of opinion. Several authors of submissions had asked that either their names or their material be treated as confidential. The submissions so fai were mostly from individu als. Those from main organisations, such as the New Zealand Law Society and the Federation of Labour, were still to come.
