Setback for Communists
NZPA-Reuter Nicosia A surprising come-back by the pro-Western party of Glafkos Clerides has prevented hard-line Communists from dominating politics in the Greek-Cypriot sector of Cyprus, according to official election results yesterday. The results of Sunday’s
elections showed that the pro-Moscow Akel party beat the Democratic Rally Party of Mr Clerides by less than 1 per cent of the. vote. However, under the proportional representation system introduced for the first time the two parties each won 12 seats in the 35-seat House of Representatives.
