Painter makes lucrative comeback
Mrs Barbara Patrick, of Parklands, holds the painting which won her $5O in a" national competition.
Mrs Patrick entered her watercolour depicting Waikawa Bay, near Picton, in the national art competi-
tion and exhibition which was held in Wellington in April by the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation of
New Zealand. Mrs Patrick painted the scene from memory, after visiting the spot in January. It was the first painting she had done for 40 years, and she was “delighted” to win. The contest was very successful, and was extended for an extra week. Mrs Patrick, a victim of arthritis for 12 years, said
that she had always liked art. When she heard of the contest she felt like “trying her hand” at a painting. She is continuing with her hobby, and so far has painted a scene of Lyttelton. Mrs Patrick’s winning painting will now be hung on her lounge wall, and another of her paintings has already been claimed by her daughter.
