Change of position results in five goals

A change of positions for Martin Aitchinson succeeded well beyond expectations for the Western A team in its thirteenth grade soccer match against Burwood last week-end. Aitchinson celebrated his change of role from midfield to striker by scoring all Western’s goals in its 5-1 win.

However, the Western eleventh grade section four team did not have any similar success. It went down. 12. to Nomads United in a free-flowing match at MacFarlane Park.

Philip Innes scored both goals for Nomads and with Graham Thorne and Michael Mcllraigh. was a constant thorn in the Western defence. Mark Carradus not only scored Western’s goal but was also the pick of his team.

The Cashmere-Wanderers ninth grade team also picked up a 2-1 win, over Shamrock at Ray Blank Park. Nicholas Shipston and Danny McNicholl scored Cashmere's goals and spearheaded a use-

ful attack. Cashmere has now picked up four consecutive wins, a fine start to the competition. The Shamrock goal-keeper. Peter Bryce, was well attired for' the match, with knee pads and gloves. To complete the picture he had a fine game, displaying great agility. Scott Adair scored Shamrock’s goal while his team-mates. Richard Caddick and Timothy North also impressed for the losing team.

The Hornby A team in the thirteenth grade is proving to be a real giant-killer this season. It has been promoted to section one for 1981, and first beat- Nomads. 3-1. and followed that up with a 2-1 win over Shamrock.

Strongly led by its captain, Gordon Sharfe. Hornby gave Shamrock no chance to play a controlled game. Sharfe scored both Hornby's goals while Lindsay Stewart was Shamrock’s goalscorer. Lee Germon, Shamrock’s captain, stood out for his team.

Another to score twice on Saturday was Mark Simon, of the Woolston W.M.C. eighth grade team. It beat the previously undefeated Burwood 3-0. Scott Murray scored the other Woolston goal, while Eddie Dunn battled determinedly for Burwood.

Cashmere's twelfth grade A team, after a hesitant start to the competition, is ■nowfinding good form and beat Shamrock. 2-0. a scoreline which did not reflect its superiority. Michael Sayers and Alan Evans were outstanding for Cashmere while Stephen Findlay’s goal was a particularly memorable one. Kelly McLoughlin and Allan Killick worked hard for Shamrock, without much success.
