Parking in Square
Sir.—The Labour council’s selfishness and lack of concern for people can clearly be seen in their hotch-potch parking policy. A nursing sister delayed for a few minutes coming off hospital duty is fined for overparking, yet the pedestrian area of Cathedral Square has now apparently been approved for free vehicle parking during peak holiday periods. At 12.30 p.m. on Friday, May 22,1981, it was difficult for pedestrians to cross the Square. Raffle tables and prizes, flower and fruit vehicles, and three trade or private vehicles plus a 40-seat tour bus were all in the Post Office steps-women's rest room area. If Labour councillors are incompetent to do the job they were elected to do they should get out now and make way for more efficient people to 'take over. — Yours, etc., FRANK FREEMAN. May 23, 1981.
