Northern Ireland

Sir,—To see the news media almost glorify both the I.R.A. and its supporters, when so

little is reported of their innocent victims, greatly upsets me. The I.R.A. claims its acts of terrorism and murder are “a fight for humanity.' 1 Included here is the assassination of Lord Mountbatten, and an attempt on the Queen's life. Most of these terrorists live in Northern Ireland, bringing up pro-I.R.A. families with all the benefits of the British social welfare system, and whether they like it or not, are British subjects. Therefore, they must be guilty of treason or plotting and supporting the same. All professed I.R.A. members should be apprehended, then banished to their beloved Irish Republic, with the understanding that as an enemy of the State to return would’mean a life imprisonment penalty. Finally let us remember hunger strikers have a choice, innocent I.R.A. victims do not. — Yours, etc.. G. COLQUHOUN. May 22. 1981.
