N.Z. bands praised
PA Wellington .New Zealand’s brass bands have almost reached the perfection of orchestras, according to the chief adjudicator (Mr. Elgar Clayton) at this year’s Shell New Zealand brass band championships, which finished in Wellington on Sunday. :■! Mr Clayton has been a judge at the championships
for the last seven years, and has long been involved with brass bands. . . . “There .has been a dramatic improvement in all grades of the competition,” he said. ‘ .. ; \ , • . “Players are handling pieces that 10 years ago they would have had great difficulty with. Bands are nearer to the J standards of orchestras than ever before.”
