Chch teacher honoured
Miss Ruth Herbison of Christchurch has been made a Fellow of the'New Zealand Educational Institute. The award, is made on the recommendations of a professional committee comprising representatives of the Institute, the Ministry of Education, the principals of teachers’ colleges, the New Zealand Post Primary Teachers’ Association, and the New Zealand Association of University Teachers, It is given as an official recognition of “outstanding competence” in professional practice or of “signal service” to education. Miss Herbison is a senior teacher -of junior classes in Christchurch. She is a past president of-the Teviot subbranch of the institute and
has been a member of management committees and the Canterbury committee of branches.
She has had a long relationship with the Christchurch Teachers’ College, contributing to professional studies, and has been the institute’s representative on selection committees. She is a. member of the International Reading Association and has been actively involved with in-service courses for more than 2C years. She is also a member of Soroptomists International. Her citation says that she has given outstanding professional leadership. “The high esteem in which she is held reflects her dedication to her chosen career.”
