Band noise
Sir,—l was interested in the item (May 8) on the noise at the Aranui Motor Hotel. We are told with much emphasis not to look at the sun in an eclipse, to avoid eye damage. It may be overall of more importance to educate people about the hearing damage from the grossly amplified sounds in musical (and nearmusical) entertainment nowa-. days. Perhaps somebody suitably qualified could confirm for us how real this may be. Incidentally, I wonder whether the Accident Compensation Commission is obliged to pay out public funds for disability from such a cause? Perhaps the pop radio stations could point out this hazard? This might 6e the best way of getting the message to those at risk—Yours, etc., K. G. DAVIDSON. May 8, 1981.
