Riccarton Mall carpark
Sir,—Cr A. B. Harman is right: the Riccarton Mall car park does look a concrete and asphalt wasteland (“The Press” May 11). The councillor has done the community a service in the positive way in which he has tackled the issue of how this desolate open space might be irilproved. I would respectfully suggest, however, that rather than be dependent on “ad hoc” landscape suggestions from individual councillors or members of the public, the Riccarton Borough Council should engage the services of a landscape architect to advise it on this problem. Indeed, consideration of landscape improvements should not be restricted to the mall but be extended to include recommendations as to how any further decline of the environmental quality of the Riccarton commercial area might be prevented.—Yours, > etc., ’ A. WILSON, ? Chairman, Canterbury Landscape Group. May 13, 1981.
