Lloyd’s brilliant century
NZPA London The West Indies captain, Clive Lloyd, scored a brilliant 124 in a Benson and Hedges cricket cup match yesterday — and finished on the losing side. One of five sixes in a whirlwind innings carried Lloyd to his hundred in 127 minutes and Lancashire’s total of nine for 288 from 55 overs looked unassailable. But Warwickshire made the runs with five wickets and seven balls to spare, its wicket-keeper, Geoff Humage, leading the way with a boisterous, unbeaten 87.
England’s wicket-keeper, David Bairstow, blasted Yorkshire to an unlikely onewicket win over Derbyshire. Yorkshire, chasing 203 to win, lost its ninth wicket at 123 but Bairstow, who finished with 103 after completing his second 50 in 17 minutes, and the last man. Mark Johnson, knocked off the runs. Sussex beat Surrey by three wickets and Kent had an eight-wicket win over the combined Universities in the other two matches held over from Saturday’s rain-ruined programme.
