Rugby coaching clinic
Scores of promising young footballers are receiving "the good oil” on rugby at the annual Cantabrians’ coaching clinic this week. The course started yesterday at Rugby Park under the direction of Dick Hockley, a Cantabrians’ committee member and a former Canterbury prop. The morning and afternoon lessons are co-ordinated by Jerry Rowberry and lan Rodger respectively. The boys, who were nominated by clubs, intermediate
and secondary schools from Christchurch and the rural areas, are receiving instruction from, among others, three former All Black front row forwards, Tane Norton, Kerry Tanner and John Creighton, and the regional coaching director, Laurie O’Reilly. Among the current, players contributing ideas are two All Blacks. Wayne Smith and Steve Scott, and a South Island representative, Gary Barkle.
