Lambs’ wool in demand

Two wool sales were held yesterday, at Invercargill and Auckland, the Press Association reports. Lambs’ wool at Invercargill was at a distinct premium compared with earlier sales. Crossbred fleece was fully in sellers’ favour, compared with the Napier sale on Tuesday, skirtings were in sellers’ favour and crutchings in buyers’ favour. The Southland secondshear was generally well grown. The offering of 27,393 bales was 32 per cent secondshear, 31 per cent fleece, 21 per cent lambs’ wool, 2 per cent crutchings, and the rest oddments. The main competition came from Eastern Europe supported by the Middle East and the Continent. The Wool Board bid on 46.9 per cent and had 22.6 per cent (6192bales) passed to it.
