Trie return of more, team competition in the pony club movement is indeed welcome, with more and more children getting the pleasure and pride of representing their branches. The Halswell branch has been the host of the two most recent team competitions, the Dan Trophy, an inter-branch team one day event at introductory and novice level, run on similar lines to the Springston Trophy, and the teams’ show jumping day for the Canterbury Saddlery Cup. Thirteen teams competed for the Dan Trophy which was retained by Halswell:

The winning team was E. Stoothoff,. R. Sebire,- T. Dunne,. L. Cleave, M. Fal-coner-arid E. Heenke. Second place yventsto the Springston No. 1 team, with two Ferrym'ead teams placed third and fourth. As the. winning team automatically runs the following year’s’ event, -Baisweil will again host the Dan Trophy next year. The strong Rangiora team won the Canterbury Saddlery Cup at the annual interbranch teams’ show jumping day at Halswell, with a score of‘2B. Fourteen teams competed at this popular day. Second equal with 21 points

were Ferrymead and Windsor, with Kaiapoi in fourth place with 20. ■ The winning team was S. Horn (Splashdown), L. Carly on (Just April), L. Fitzgerald. (Kanga), P. Carlyon (Miss Alladin), C. Roberts (Royal Blaze) and A. Carlyon (Honey Glow). This was a notable achievement for the Carlyon family with three members in the winning team, and all were placed during the day, scoring points for their branch. Exports A recent exportation to Australia was the rising two-year-old colt. Mr Folly, owned and bred by Anne ■Archdale and Barbara Heard. This bright chestnut colt by the successful sire, Alladins Legend from Summer Folly, had a successful

showing year, having one champion and two reserve champions, six firsts and one second from seven shows. He will be used for breeding purposes in Australia. ■The plane-load of horses which flew to Sydney contained mainly standardbreds of varying ages, a few thoroughbreds, an event horse and two ponies. The condition and rough appearance of many left much to be desired and was certainly no advertisement for New Zealand. A groom and tidy-up all round would have created a very much better impression. Kimberley Another pony to move over to Australia is Kimberley, one of Canterbury’s top show ponies for a number of years. Kimberley was by

What’s Wanted from Miss Canterbury, and bred by the Jenkins family of Wardendale. When prepared by Beulah Jenkins, Kimberley was very successful in the led section. He was then taken over by Mrs Zelda Walker who prepared him for his most successful career under saddle, where he won endless championships and supreme awards. He.won three Royal Show champions arid two supremes. At the Invercargill Royal Show, there was no supreme award. Kimberley has gone to Mrs Lois Young, Mrs Walker’s daughter, in Melbourne, and as yet, he has not competed over there. He took some time to adjust to the heat and the flies, whereas the two young ponies which accompanied him adjusted easily.

Eventing The eventing season is underway with the second Horse Society one day trials, run by the Canterbury Junior Committee being run last Sunday at Motukarara. Good entries were received, and again pony club teams competed as a lead-up to the Pony Club Championships in May. The Wills New Zealand one day horse trials, incorporating the coveted Forest Gate Trophy, for advanced and intermediate horses, the Waiteko Trophy, open to novice and intermediate horses, and the Ferndale Trophy, open to novice grade horses only, will be held at Otaio on May 31, a week after the pony club championships. In holding these three national events for three consecutive week-ends and within a hundred-mile radius,
