Two die in plane crash

PA Napier Two people were killed instantly when the Cessna aircraft they were flying in crashed behind the Hawke’s Bay airport about 5 p.m. yesterday. The pilot of the privately owned light plane was believed to be aged 19 and his passenger a teen-aged girl. Their names were not available last evening. The machine appeared to have “pancaked” into a paddock on a Lands and

Survey Department farm at the end of Watchman Road. Senior-Sergeant M. Cull of the Napier police said the plane was completely wrecked and burnt out by the time emergency services arrived on the scene. The bodies were recovered from the wreck just before dark. Police are keeping a guard on the wreck overnight and an inspector of air accidents is expected from Auckland today to inspect the wreckage.
