Minute crack caused crash
PA Wellington A Imm fatigue crack caused part of a light aircraft’s undercarriage to fracture as it landed on Fox Glacier last year, turning the plane over and injuring four people, says an Office of Air Accidents Investigation report. Four passengers on the scenic flight suffered minor injuries in the crash on 'De-
cember 6, but the pilot was unhurt. The air accident report said the D.S.I.R. examined the fractured undercarriage leg strut and found evidence of three fatigue cracks. “The crack that initiated failure was only approximately Imm long,” the report said. “This accident occurred as a result of the initiation and.
