PA . Tauranga The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) . yesterday saw from the air the ThamesPaeroa area devastated by heavy flooding 11 days ago. He was flown from Tauranga airport to Paeroa by as Air Force helicopter, and then driven to Thames, in-

specting the damage on the Kopu-Hikowai road on the return journey. “There's no doubt that there has been a tremendous amount of damage, particularly in Paeora where there is a great deal of distress among the people who have

had their homes flooded and in some cases destroyed. I have a good picture of it now,” Mr Muldoon said.

The Government had provided an “open-endedgrant”

to supplement gifts, and the limit had not yet been reached.,. < Several extensive relief proposals had been approved already, and the Minister of Works'and Development (Mr W. L. Young), would report to. the Cabinet on the main works needed.

“At the moment there is about $lOO,OOO in donations, and we are going to supplement it up to $250,000, dollar-for-dollar, so I hope there will still be more donations coming in,” Mr Muldoon said.
