Rural grant raised
Government grants for community education in rural activity programmes will be increased 15 per cent this vear.
The programme, known as Rural Education Activity' Programmes, have been designed to inject educational' resources and personnel into rural areas, from prc-school to adult education. At present. they run in only seven districts', including Blenheim and Grevmouth.
Announcing the increased grant, the Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) said that the Government was intent on fostering and strengthening educational opportunities in rural areas. The increase showed this intent.
Westport will be included in the scheme this vear.
