Proposal to reduce size of executive
■ Two South Island seats and two from the North Island will be deleted if a remit, to be sponsored by the executive, is passed at the annual meeting of the Trotting Conference to be held in Wanganui in July.
The executive, at a meeting held in Christchurch, decided to sponsor a remit reducing the size of the executive from 13 to nine by removing two seats from each island.
It is proposed that the change would take effect on August 1, 1982. The executive would then comprise a president, a North Island vice-president, a South Island vice-president and three representatives from each is-, land.
It is also proposed that all members of the executive will serve a three-year term. At present the president and two vice-presidents come up for election each year, while executive members serve two-year terms. The remit will not alter the present method of voting where by all clubs vote to fill seats from both the North and South Island. The executive made their decision after considering the harness racing paper published a month ago following a meeting of 11 persons who considered all aspects of trotting and suggested ways in which administration could be streamlined. . ’
The executive also elected a sub-committee consisting of the president, Sir James Barnes, and Messrs G. D. Kelly. G. W. Blaxall and J. G. Phillips to hold further discussions with the authors of the paper.
There will be a vacancy in the South Island executive seats in this year’s election. Mr Colin Maynard, of Winton, will not be seeking reelection for business reaThe other retiring South Island members are Messrs Phillips and L. W. J. Woods. Messrs L. E. August and G J. S. Macdonald are the retiring North Island members of the executive. ;
