Home heating
Sir,—l am grateful to Mr P. V. Neary, of the. Clean Air Society, for his interest in our heating feature. My aim — clean air for Christchurch — is basically the same as Mr Neary’s, but our methods vary slightly. My support for stove manufacturers and coal merchants is directed purely at elimination of open fires, described as responsible for 70 per cent of our problem, and conservation of our fossil fuels by more efficient use. My involvement has largely been generated by the need to find an intelligent answer for the several hundred people who come to us each year seeking a cleaner and more energy-effi-cient substitute for open fires. We agree that each case should he considered individually and Mr Neary will be pleased that many go ' away convinced that electricity, is best, for. them — Yours, etc., R. A. ALEXANDER, Manager, Canterbury Building Centre. April 26, 1981.
