Park funds transfer
Development of Hansen Park, Opawa, will be partly funded from money previously set aside for establishing a reserve near the Estuary. The Christchurch City Council said last evening that the $66,391 credit balance in the Hammond block development fund should be transferred for work at Hansen Park, a former rubbish tip inside a bend of the Heathcote River. Land set aside for a recreation reserve in the Hammond Block — bounded by Linwood Avenue, Humphreys Drive and Charlesworth Street — will not be needed for some years, because the development of housing and schools there has been delayed by the economic slump.
Sports fields and play areas will be developed at Hansen Park, and also a .river walkway.
