Sir—Your correspondent Miss Slyfield (March 27) appears upset that the Census permits either “year of birth.” or “age last birthday” as a choice of answers. She is obviously unaware that for some people, (the Chinese, for instance) age is reckoned from conception, not from birth; therefore it is a realistic choice for anyone in New Zealand. It could, for example make a-nine-month difference as to when an applicant for superannuation became eligible; or for a driving licence—Yours etc., . D. SINCLAIR (Ms) March 27, 1981.
